Ten Georgia schools, including a handful in metro Atlanta, made Newsweek’s list of top U.S. high schools for 2016.

The news magazine announced its 2016 High School Rankings, which includes “America’s Top High Schools,” a list of 500 high schools nationwide that excel at preparing students for college.

Three Georgia schools on the 2016 list also appeared in 2015. Alpharetta’s Chattahoochee High School climbed the list, up 218 spots from 499 in 2015 to 281 on the 2016 list. So did DeKalb School of the Arts, at 177 this year versus 368 in 2015. Columbus High School in Columbus fell from 311 to 485.

“America’s Top High Schools” identifies top 500 schools by measuring factors including graduation rate, college enrollment rate, SAT and ACT scores and participation, AP/IB scores and participation, full time counselors-to-students ratio and the dropout rate.

Columbus High School (Columbus), No. 485
