Fulton County school board members are expected to approve a nearly $1.3 million installation of new playground equipment at district schools.

Some 37 elementary schools are slated to receive the new equipment, according to the board's agenda for Thursday's meeting.

The initiative will include removal of older equipment that has become outdated and difficult to maintain, school officials say. Many of the playgrounds that will be replaced are 12-16 years old and do not meet current playground standards.

The majority of the site and playground work will take place between September 2014 and January 2015.
