Former Decatur school board member Valarie Wilson is the lead candidate to run the Georgia School Boards Association.

Wilson, a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for state school superintendent, served as president of the school boards association early this decade. She has previously been employed as the leader of the non-profit Atlanta BeltLine Partnership and of the Fulton County Human Services Department.

Wilson was recommended for the school boards association position on April 8 by an executive director search committee. The organization’s board will vote Friday on whether to hire her.
