The DeKalb County School District is looking for community members for an Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax advisory committee.

The public is asked to submit applications online through July 12.

According to district officials, the E-SPLOST Advisory Committee "provides citizen input, oversight and review of a voter-approved project list paid for with E-SPLOST revenue." DeKalb voters approved E-SPLOST V in 2016, but with no list of expected projects, a past practice that did not happen in that particular vote. At the time, Superintendent Steve Green said he wanted parents and other residents to have a say in the types of projects the district would undertake.

Candidates for the advisory committee must be residents who live within school district boundaries, and possibly with expertise in accounting, architecture, auditing, construction, engineering, finance, law, planning, project management, real estate or k-12 education. DeKalb County Board of Education members, their relatives, district employees or those with a financial stake in district projects may not participate.

If approved, members must be able to pass a background check and sign a nondisclosure agreement. Meetings likely will be monthly, for about two hours each time.
