DeKalb Schools get certified as STEM schools

Students in Tanisha Taylor's 4th grade STEM class at the McNair Discovery Learning Academy designed traps in 2015 to catch the endangered Cane Toad.

Nearly two dozen DeKalb County schools have been recognized as being specifically equipped” to hand out real-world lessons in science, technology, engineering and math.

The schools received STEM certification during the first of two reviews of district schools this year, officials said in a press release. The certifications were offered either through the Georgia Department of Education or accrediting council AdvancED.

One of the certified schools — Henderson Mill Elementary School — is recognized as one of the state's first schools certified in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
