Gwinnett County students interested in attending the high school that typically ranks first statewide in many academic categories have until 4 p.m. Friday to apply.

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology has a process where students must apply for enrollment through a lottery system. Current eighth-graders must meet certain academic requirements to be admitted to the school. Students and parents can apply online at http://www.gsmst.org/admissions. The school will announce the lottery winners later this year.

The school has about 1,000 students.

The school, located in Lawrenceville, had the highest median SAT scores in the state during the 2015-16 school year. News outlets such as U.S. News & World Report ranked the school last year as the best in Georgia.
