The James M. Cox Foundation gave North Carolina Outward Bound School a $152,000 grant to support the school’s programming for veterans and Atlanta Public Schools students.

Outward Bound expects to use the money to serve 1,317 students from 18 Atlanta schools and 36 veterans and military service members from metro Atlanta.

Outward Bound offers experiential learning programs throughout the Southeast and in Argentina. Students in its programs learn leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills while working in outdoor settings such as ropes courses. In 1990, the organization launched Outward Bound Atlanta, which serves more than 1,000 Atlanta students and many teachers yearly. The programs take place at participating schools and through wilderness expeditions in the North Carolina mountains.

The James M. Cox Foundation is named in honor of the founder of Cox Enterprises and provides money for capital campaigns and projects in communities where the company and its affiliates operate. Cox Enterprises owns The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other Atlanta-based companies.
