A Cobb County educator recently resigned after school district officials said she was under the influence of alcohol at work.

Bess McClung, a former paraprofessional at Lassiter High School, was cited for alcohol possession after officials said they found a tumbler that belonged to her that smelled of alcohol, according to a school district report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. McClung said she had consumed alcohol the prior evening and before she arrived at school that morning, the report said.

The incident took place on Aug. 5. McClung wrote a handwritten resignation letter that day, records show.

Efforts to contact McClung for comment were unsuccessful.

The AJC received the report under the Georgia Open Records Act.
