Clayton schools proposes pay increase for teachers, other employees
Clayton County schools leaders are considering pay increases for teachers and other employees.
Superintendent Luvenia W. Jackson announced the recommendation of a budget proposal for teacher and other employee pay increases to school board members during a budget work session this week.
If approved, the proposed budget will offer a one-time 1 percent bonus for all employees in full-time positions as of July 1. In addition, teachers and other employees would receive at least a one-step increase on the appropriate pay scale.
The school district – the fifth-largest in Georgia with over 53,000 students — employs approximately 7,300 people.
The school board will consider tentative adoption of the proposed budget May 4 with final adoption on May 26.
Clayton joins several other Atlanta metro area school districts, which have proposed pay increases for teachers and other employees after years of budget cuts and stagnant pay.
