Clark Atlanta University president named federal consumer protection board chair

Clark Atlanta University President Ronald A. Johnson is the new leader of a board of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Johnson is chair of the bureau’s Consumer Advisory Board, the university announced.

Johnson has a master’s and doctoral degree in economics from Stanford University and a MBA in finance and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Adelphi University.

The board’s duties include informing the public about emerging practices or trends in the consumer finance industry, and it shares analysis and recommendations, according to its website. The advisory board was created after the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in 2010.

Other board members with Georgia ties include Liz Coyle, executive director of Georgia Watch, which, among other things, is a consumer watchdog group.
