Mica Blankinship, a senior from Johns Creek High School, was awarded a full, four-year scholarship to Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut from QuestBridge National College Match. QuestBridge is a national non-profit that helps students from low-income backgrounds attend top colleges. Blankinship was one of 440 students selected to be College Match recipients.

Alpharetta High School won four EMMY awards from the Southeast chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Seven students won awards for Best Newscast, Best Talent, Best Commercial and Best Writing. The students accepted their awards at the 2014 Southeast Regional EMMY Awards June 7.

Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology social studies teacher Seth Hersch won the Olmsted Award for Outstanding Secondary Level Teaching from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Hersch was nominated by a former student. Hersch traveled to Williams College and accepted his award June 7.

Six Gwinnett County Public Schools graduates received the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's college-sponsored National Merit scholarships. Hannah Lee, from Brookwood High, received a National Merit Northwestern University Scholarship; Christina T. Lanier, from Grayson High, received a National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship; Ryan T. Clark, from Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, reveiced a National Merit Brigham Young University Scholarship; Erika L. Ikizake, from GSMST, received a National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship; Mary Katherine Wirl, from Mountainview High, received a National Merit University of South Carolina Scholarship; and Lihua Shu, from Parkview High, received a National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship.

Norris Nicholson, a recent graduate of South Forsyth High School in Forsyth County, was awarded the 2014 Elks National Foundation Legacy Award. The scholarship is given to three Georgia students who embody knowledge, integrity, charity and community.

The University of Georgia Hodgson Singers won the International Choral Competition Ave Verum, a two-day competition. The choir was one of 10 choirs from multiple countries that competed in the competition in Baden, Austria.
