As a fifth grader at DeKalb's Dunwoody Elementary, Carol Zhou was recognized nationally with a second place win in the Coastal America Art Contest. Carol recently picked up her award at the Georgia Aquarium, even though she earned the award last year. Sixteen students from kindergarten to college were recognized for their artwork that reflected one of the seven key principles of ocean literacy. The winning students were invited to Washington, D.C. for a celebration and exhibition. But since Carol wasn't able to attend the ceremonies there she took part in a celebration for the Georgia Aquarium's new interactive kiosk and display, donated by Coastal America. Carol and her former art teacher at Dunwoody Elementary School, Laura Fleury-Bell, also got a behind the scenes tour of the Aquarium. Carol is now a sixth grader at Peachtree Middle School.
