Atlanta schools considers school closures, mergers, charter operators
The Atlanta school district could close one school, merge four others and put five other schools under the management of charter school groups, according to a district announcement this evening.
Kindezi, which currently operates two charter schools in Atlanta, would work with Gideons Elementary School.
Purpose Built Schools, a partner to Drew Charter School, would work with Thomasville Heights Elementary, Slater Elementary, Price Middle School and Carver High School.
Superintendent Meria Carstarphen is also recommending:
- Merging Grove Park Intermediate School with Woodson Primary School;
- Closing Bethune Elementary School and openining a new school in the former Kennedy Middle School; and
- Merging Connally Elementary School with Venetian Hills Elementary.
