A person disguised as a clown has made threats to Atlanta schools.

The threats were made on social media and police are investigating, Superintendent Meria Carstarphen said in a letter to parents.

However, she said the district has no credible evidence of any threat made against a specific Atlanta school.

Other schools in Georgia and metro Atlanta have received similar threats on social media as part of a rising national tide of concern about scary clowns, prompting at least one district to send students home early. There have been few confirmed scary clown sightings or threats carried out.
