Confused about what Atlanta Public Schools' shift to a "charter system" means for your local school?

Atlanta school board members Leslie Grant and Courtney English will host a town hall meeting on Thursday, July 30, to explain how the new structure and groups overseeing local schools will work.

At the meeting, Fulton County Schools officials will explain how a similar structure works in their district.

In general, charter system status gives the district more freedom from some state laws — and potentially a little more money — in exchange for greater state accountability.

The meeting is at APS’ Center for Learning and Leadership, 130 Trinity Street SW, at 7 p.m.
