Furniture retailer opens on Howell Mill Road
Another furniture retailer is moving into the White Provision development on Atlanta's west side. Environment Furniture will open a 3,000-square-foot showroom on June 1 at 1170 Howell Mill Road. Room & Board opened a 34,000-square-foot showroom in the project in May. Los Angeles-based Environment offers a spare style with environmentally sustainable materials. The Atlanta store will be only the sixth outpost for the retailer.

Popeyes' reports drop in earnings over last year
AFC Enterprises, the parent company of the Popeyes chicken chain, reported Wednesday that first-quarter net income fell 22 percent to $5 million, but the company raised its expectations for the year based on favorable response to new value offerings. Global same-store sales rose 0.2 percent in the first quarter, compared to a 1.3 percent decrease in the same quarter a year-ago. Same-store sales, a key measure for restaurants, tracks only sales at outlets already open the year before. The company said it saw positive results from promotions.
