Smoking in Kennesaw parks will not only be harmful to your health but could be bad for your wallet and freedom after the City Council banned it Monday night.

The city banned all tobacco products, and e-cigarettes, in a move officials say is designed to protect children in the parks, according to the Associated Press from WAGA-TV.

The television station reported that Kennesaw has had designated smoking areas in its parks for the past decade, but the new law will eliminate those areas and make entire parks no smoking zones.

Marietta passed a smoking ban in city parks in 2005.

Sandy Springs passed a similar law earlier this year.

Kennesaw authorities said first-time offenders will get a warning, but repeat offenders could face a large fine and up to a year in jail.
