Congressman John Lewis, (D-Atlanta) and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be honored by the National Council of Jewish Women during the organization's national convention in Atlanta Thursday through Saturday.
The award recognizes a person whose dedication has contributed to improve the lives of Americans.
On Friday, Clinton will be honored during a luncheon and given the “Women Who Dared” award via a video message. At the same event, Judge Phyllis A. Kravitch will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kravitch was the first woman appointed as a federal judge in the Southeast and the third woman appointed as a U.S. Circuit Court judge.
At 6 p.m. on Saturday, Lewis will receive the NCJW’s “Faith and Humanity Award,” at the group’s Leadership Gala.
The three-day conference will focus on post-election skills-building workshops, advocacy and leadership tools.
Lewis said in a release about the conference that the organization is "working every day for the enactment and enforcement of laws that preserve civil rights for all, and to ensure that the plurality of voices and opinions that make our democracy strong are heard. From gun violence prevention to voting rights to criminal justice reform, I’m grateful to have the partnership of this critical organization to help make ‘good trouble.'.”
