A Jasper woman claimed a $2 million Powerball consolation prize this week after reading an online story about her unclaimed ticket.

Janon Frei, 50, matched the first five numbers from the Sept. 17 drawing.

According to Georgia Lottery Corp. officials, Frei was scrolling through her news feed on Facebook when she saw a link to a story about an unclaimed winning ticket that was purchased locally.

“I said to myself, ‘those numbers look familiar,’” she told lottery officials.

Frei, whose initial $1 million prize was doubled because she paid an extra dollar to increase her non-jackpot winnings, claimed her money Tuesday at the lottery’s district office in Dalton.
