There is no threat of a Hurricane Isis, at least now that the name is removed from an official storm name list.
Isis was listed as a storm name on the Eastern North Pacific Names list for 2016, according to the World Meteorological Organization, the United Nationas agency that oversees naming the world’s tropical cyclones. The name was deemed inappropriate and removed since gaining infamy because of the terror group, according to mashable.
ISIS, or Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is an extremist group using brutal force including beheadings and destruction of cultural heritage sites in an attempt to establish an Islamic caliphate.
Devastating storm names are typically retired at the request of the country most badly damaged by it. Andrew, Katrina and Sandy are some retired hurricane names, according to the National Weather Service.
Ivette replaced Isis on the list.
