A passenger aboard the Royal Caribbean's Empress of the Seas posted a video Tuesday on Twitter when the ship was being hit by the outer bands of the hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship, which left Miami, was near la Isla de Juventud, Cuba, when it encountered the storm, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

The video, taken from the deck of the cruise liners, shows water crashing on board and high winds. In the background, flashes of lightning streak across the sky.

"Arrival to Havana #severelydelayed," the passenger, who goes by Snapper Tams, wrote on Twitter.

"Seas are still somewhat rough," the man, who calls himself an entrepreneur and social worker from Richmond, Virginia, told CNN.

Snapper Tams told CNN that the ship waited for a few hours for the hurricane to pass through the Yucatan Channel and head north into the Gulf of Mexico. The liner then continued its trip to Havana.
