A man was shot outside a Holiday Inn Express and Suites south Hall county early Wednesday morning, according to Hall County officials.

Deputies responded to a report of a person shot at a hotel parking lot in the 4900 block of Bristol Industrial Way on Wednesday, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Officer Derreck Booth said. They found a man shot in the side and lying on the ground. A woman who claimed to be his girlfriend was with him, Booth said.

The man, 32-year-old Carlos Lopez, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The woman, 33-year-old Alana Latimer, began showing symptoms of a drug overdose in a police interview shortly after. She was also taken to the same hospital, Booth said.

Deputies found drugs on Latimer and Lopez while investigating the shooting, officials said. A search warrant was obtained for the couple’s apartment where heroin and a mixture containing methamphetamine were found. They also found more than $5,000 in cash, Booth said. The estimated street value of drugs found in the apartment was $142,000 dollars, according to Booth.

Latimer was arrested when she was released from the hospital on Jan. 1. Lopez turned himself in on Jan. 3 and was booked into the Hall County Jail. They were both charged with trafficking heroin and methamphetamine, Booth said.

Officials said that neither Lopez nor Latimer has cooperated in the shooting investigation, so there are no leads at this time.

The shooting and the narcotics cases are under investigation by the Hall sheriff’s office.
