Gwinnett County police are asking the public for help identifying a "person of interest" in the fatal shooting of a Lawrenceville man Thursday afternoon.

Gwinnett County police have released surveillance footage of a “person of interest” sought for questioning in the fatal shooting of a Lawrenceville man Thursday afternoon.

Anthony Collins, 44, was found dead outside a car near McKendree Elementary School along Riverside Parkway shortly after 3 p.m., authorities said. Investigators said he was shot at least once.

“While canvassing the area for information, detectives were able to obtain video of a person of interest,” Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Collin Flynn said Friday.

The video, which appears to come from a home security camera, shows a man walking across a yard not from the deadly shooting. Police said the man has a skinny build and is about 5-foot-10. He is known to walk around the area and often carries a “pole, stick or other object.”

Gwinnett police have not determined a motive in the case, but Channel 2 Action News reported that Collins was walking his dog when he was killed.

Anyone who recognizes the man or has information about the shooting is asked to contact Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for a cash reward, by contacting Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
