Gwinnett fugitive compounds legal troubles with high-speed chase

When Gwinnett sheriff deputies, U.S. deputy marshals and assorted law officers, tried to arrest him at the Hampton Inn in Lawrenceville Thursday on warrants for relatively minor crimes, the 41-year-old Staples led them on a high-speed chase, said Deputy Shannon Volkodav.

Deputies captured Staples on Oakland Road near Plantation Court in Lawrenceville by performing the Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T. maneuver) to bump his car to a stop, Volkodav said.The fugitive tried to run, but was quickly apprehended by sheriff’s deputies, Volkodav said. Staples is now in jail, Volkodav said. And not to pile on but she said he can expect more charges after today’s flight.
