Georgians reflect on Billy Graham’s legacy, how he touched their lives

Billy Graham - Through The Years

The Rev. Billy Graham preached the gospel to the world for more than six decades, attracting millions to his crusades and captivating millions more on the radio and television. Georgia residents have been among the thousands of people sharing how Graham touched their lives, from his example as a gracious man of God to being the faith leader who turned them into believers.

The responses from the Legacy online guestbook that appeared with our coverage spotlight Graham’s influence. Here are just a few of the memories and condolences shared by Georgians.

I remember going to the Billy Graham Revival in Atlanta several years ago. What a great experience! Billy Graham was truly God's servant and totally devoted to Jesus!

What a wonderful man of God! I feel sure that he is happier now than he has ever been, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praise God for men like Rev. Billy Graham.

What a precious gift God gave the World when Billy Graham was born.

At a Crusade in Toronto Ontario Canada my mother Meda Hyde became a Born Again Christian & through her witness to me (I was a hard nut to crack) because I would think in my head I wish you would shut up. It took a long time of gentle witnessing before I accepted Jesus as my Lord & Saviour. Now at age 95 He has never left me & has brought me through trials & joyous times all because of a message preached by Billy Graham back in Toronto Ontario Canada in a 1955 Crusade.

Let us all share the Good News of Salvation with all we meet every day.

— Doris Fearncombe, Woodstock

An amazing man that we spent many hours listening to as our Mom and Dad always listened to the Billy Graham telecast and led all of us children to love hearing him preach the gospel. I know our Dad will be happy to see him in heaven as our Dad loved and respected this wonderful man as all of our family does. Thank you for all your good works.

We are truly going to miss a great man of peace and faith, I have been to his sermons every time he came to Ga. True man of faith and sure did help with life struggles for many many folks. May God be with his family, friends and his listeners at this time. Rest in Peace Rev. Graham

He was a great man of God and a great gift from God. He has inspired me in my Christian walk and he continues through telecasts of his worldwide crusades. I hope I'll get to meet him in heaven.

Mr. Billy Graham led me to the LORD when I was eight. I wrote him a letter asking a question that really bothered me — he took the time to answer me and guide me through this rough time. I trusted him and felt he really cared about me. I am now approaching my fiftieth birthday and I never forgot how his wisdom helped me. He will be greatly missed.

— Michelle London, Americus

I had the privilege of attending every Billy Graham Crusade service in Nashville, TN in 1954 and sang in the choir. Rev. Graham blessed my life, it was an indeed an honor to know and worship with him. There really are men and women who live honest and admirable lives. I wish there were more like Rev. Graham. My prayers are with all of his family.

— Marianne Cheek, Stone Mountain

What a Godly Man! I, along with my daughter, had the opportunity many years ago to attend and sing in the choir at your crusade held in Atlanta — a great experience that we have never forgotten. You have been such a blessing to many, many people! Prayers are being lifted up for the Graham family.
