Friday morning is off to a chilly start, but there’s not much rain expected heading into Mother’s Day weekend.

With minimal cloud cover, there should be plenty of sunshine across metro Atlanta this afternoon, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. But with an expected high of just 68 degrees, Friday will be about 10 degrees cooler than average for this time of year.

“It’s chilly,” Monahan said. “You’ll need a jacket as we kick off this Friday morning.”

After a soggy start to the week, metro Atlanta is in store for a nice Mother’s Day weekend, according to the latest forecast. There’s just a 10% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday as the afternoon highs are expected to warm up to more seasonal temperatures.

“This weekend looks like a pretty good one in North Georgia,” Monahan said. “Not like that monsoon we saw earlier this week.”

Saturday’s high is expected to reach 75 degrees in Atlanta and Sunday should get into the low 80s, according to the latest forecast. Clouds will likely return to metro Atlanta by Sunday evening, however, and widespread rain is expected to kick off the workweek. There’s a 70% chance of showers across North Georgia on Monday, Channel 2 reported.

There are a few lingering construction projects causing delays during Friday morning’s commute, but no major backups on metro Atlanta’s interstates.

In Gwinnett County, drivers can expect minor delays heading into Duluth as roadwork continues at Pleasant Hill Road, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
