A former employee of a Texas sheriff's office, who resigned last summer after being accused of stealing money meant for an office Christmas party, has been charged with theft, KSAT reported.

Patricia Martinez, who worked as an office assistant for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested March 27 on a misdemeanor charge of theft, the television station reported.

Martinez resigned last July. According to a probable cause affidavit, Martinez admitted in April 2018 to taking a key for a safe located at the Jail Programs section of the Bexar County Jail, KSAT reported.

Martinez then allegedly used the key to open the safe and take $712, the television station reported, citing to court records.

The money in the safe had been earmarked for the office's annual Christmas party, KSAT reported.
