Ford Motor’s all-electric F-150 pickup truck, Lightning, will be unveiled next week in a milestone event.

The big reveal will take place May 19 at the company’s world headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

The company said it will be broadcast across social media platforms as well as spaces such as Times Square in New York City and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Though today it is used to signify the electric truck, during the 1990s and early 2000s, Ford used the F-150 Lightning branding for its line of street performance trucks.

In an attempt to differentiate from other competitors including Rivian and Tesla, Ford promises its electric pickup will be a true work truck.

“America's favorite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric."

- Jim Farley, Ford CEO

“Every so often, a new vehicle comes along that disrupts the status quo and changes the game … Model T, Mustang, Prius, Model 3. Now comes the F-150 Lightning,” Ford CEO Jim Farley said in a statement.

“America’s favorite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric,” Farley said.

Ford said the production of the new electric pickup is scheduled to begin next spring at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan.

It is expected to arrive in dealerships in the spring of 2022.
