An Uber Eats customer in South Florida who ordered Japanese food Sunday said he was mortified to receive dirty underwear with his dinner, WPLG reported.
Leo, who said he only wanted to be identified by his first name, was visiting Miami Beach for its annual Art Basel show. At 10 p.m. Sunday he ordered Japanese food through his Uber Eats app. What he received angered him.
"Disgusting, unhealthful, it's potentially deadly," Leo told WPLG. "What do you do if you find this in your food?!"
Leo said he walked out of his hotel to meet the delivery driver.
"I grabbed the food and right when I got the food she took off running and I was like, 'That was kind of odd,'" he told the television station.
When he returned to his room, he saw his food -- and something else.
"I thought this, when I was pulling it out, 'This sure is a fancy napkin,'" Leo told WPLG.
It wasn’t. It was a pair of thigh-length, dirty underwear, the television station reported.
Leo immediately contacted Uber, the restaurant and the police department and received apologies -- plus a full refund from Uber -- but he remained upset, WPLG reported.
"Any other thing, you can let it pass, but that's not a joke," Leo told the television station.
"What's been reported is very concerning. We are reviewing this order and reaching out to all parties involved to help understand what may have occurred," Uber said in a statement, according to WPLG. "The courier has been removed from the app pending investigation."
