Metro Atlanta was under a flood watch Sunday as forecasters predicted a night of sometimes heavy rain in addition to the 1 to 2 inches of rain that fell Saturday night and early Sunday.

The flood watch, which covers most of north Georgia from LaGrange northward, is in effect through 7 a.m. Monday.

Rainfall totals from the system through Sunday morning ranged from 1.01 inches in Alpharetta, 1.21 inches in Dunwoody and 1.28 inches in Chamblee to 1.48 inches in Marietta, 1.59 inches in Dallas and 1.96 inches at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The National Weather Service said rainfall totals could reach 3 inches in some areas by Monday morning.

While the rain had diminished at 10 a.m. Sunday, Channel 2 meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said, “I expect a lot more, heavy rain tonight.”

Lopez said the chance of rain is 100 percent Sunday night, diminishing to 60 percent Monday morning.

Highs will be in the low 60s Monday, after morning lows in the low 50s.

Tuesday will breezy but dry, Lopez said, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the low 40s.

Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs around 50 and lows in the 30s.
