A felon sought on numerous charges by five agencies, including four in Georgia, is back behind bars Monday following a police pursuit in Douglas County.

Marcus Jerrell Moment, 27, was arrested early Monday following a chase through a Douglasville neighborhood, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Elmer Horn.

Moment served five years in prison on a computer theft conviction, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was released in November 2019.

Monday’s incident began as an attempted traffic stop on Veterans Memorial Highway. A deputy spotted a white Audi and learned that its owner, later identified as Moment, was wanted on felony charges out of Sandy Springs, Atlanta, Fulton County, Clayton County and Cook County, Illinois. The details of what led to those charges is not clear.

The deputy tried to pull the car over, but the driver refused to stop and sped off down Veterans Memorial Highway, Horn said.

Deputies followed the vehicle until it crashed at the intersection with Bingham Road. Moment then got out of the car and started running toward Newman Ellis Road, Horn said.

Douglas deputies and Douglasville police officers began searching the area, and numerous residents called 911 and reported sightings of the suspect. He was taken into custody about 1:25 a.m.

Moment was taken to the Douglas County Jail, where he remains. He is charged there with reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, obstruction of officers, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm or knife during certain crimes and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
