The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday it will not challenge a state decision allowing four airport concessionaires to keep their “disadvantaged” status for obtaining government contracts.
The move closes a chapter of challenges surrounding the massive round of airport concessions contracts awarded by the city of Atlanta last year for new restaurants at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The Georgia Department of Transportation last year held decertification hearings and a state review of the four firms — Hojeij Branded Foods, Atlanta Restaurant Partners, Mack II and Vida Concessions — before deciding that all four should retain their certifications.
The FAA said last year it would weigh whether to appeal to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
On Wednesday, the FAA said it would not appeal the decision. It is also working with other agencies to develop a plan to ensure GDOT’s certifications follow disadvantaged business enterprise regulations.
