Floyd County Schools is closing one of its elementary schools for the next two days after an employee was confirmed to have coronavirus.

The message, posted on the district’s website Wednesday, says Cave Spring Elementary School will be closed to staff on Thursday and Friday for thorough cleaning. Those days were already student holidays for the district.

The employee is being treated at a local hospital.

The district has already taken other precautions, including installing more hand sanitizers, fogging once a week and implementing antibacterial surface wipes, the message said.

There will be no additional closings for the district at this time, officials said.

So far, most people who have been diagnosed report mild symptoms, especially children and young adults, who can experience little to no symptoms.

COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, appears to be more serious for older people and those with chronic health conditions.

Still, schools are taking precautions.

Fulton County schools closed all of its schools for two days after a teacher at two middle schools contracted the virus. The two middle schools will stay closed longer for deep cleaning.

Valdosta City Schools closed all of its schools Wednesday for cleaning after a student teacher had contact with family members who may have been exposed to the virus.

A daycare in Acworth also closed for two days this week when one of its teachers tested posted for the virus.
