Born and raised in Alpharetta, Georgia, Susan Ahmad is a proud product of the Fulton County school system. After graduating from Shorter University with a degree in music education, she returned to the Fulton County school system as an elementary music teacher. She also has served as the Minister of Music at Clear Springs Baptist Church for 31 years.

For the past 29 years, Susan Ahmad has been teaching music at Lake Windward Elementary School. She holds certificates for Expert Teacher, Master Teacher, and Teacher Support Specialist. She has served as a Fulton County Fine Arts Support Teacher for 28 years, coaching elementary music teachers across the entire school district. She attributes many of her teaching skills to the mentoring of Suzanne Shull, a teacher who always supported Susan and helped her obtain her first teaching job as a substitute teacher.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to announce a new community recognition program – the AJC Celebrating Teachers Awards. We believe the very best of the best are worth honoring and giving them the recognition they deserve. This will be a moment of significant pride for the honoree, their family and school.
