A Duluth man was charged Thursday in an apparent attempted murder-suicide, police said.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 800 block of Club Place at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

They found Marisol Rodriguez, 32, dead from apparent stab wounds. Vicente Rivadeneira-Torres, 36, was on the floor nearby with a knife protruding from his chest, police said.

An investigation revealed that the couple had an argument just before the stabbing. Rivadeneira-Torres stabbed Rodriguez before turning the knife on himself, police said.

The couple’s 10-year-old daughter fled the residence to seek help. She was not injured and has since been released into the custody of relatives.

Rivadeneira-Torres was transported to a hospital in serious condition, though police said it appears he will survive his injuries.

Thursday, police received warrants for felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of third-degree cruelty to children against Rivadeneira-Torres.

He remains hospitalized and under guard. Upon his release, he will be transported to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
