Making online changes to the address on your driver’s license just got easier, the Georgia Department of Driver Services announced Wednesday.

Thousands of people were having such a hard time changing their address online that they were making an unnecessary trip to their local driver’s license office, said Rob Mikell, DDS commissioner.

But the system’s now been improved, and with it, the success rate for making an address change to a driver’s license has gone from 65 percent to 99.3 percent, Mikell said.

“Why come in if you don’t have to? Change your address online anytime of the day or night from the comfort of your home or office and save time and fuel,” he said.

Under the old system, customers could be notified up to 10 days after the transaction took place that the change of address could not be validated. This resulted, in some cases, in an inconvenient refund having to be processed to the customer’s credit card and an in-person visit to DDS.

To qualify for an online address change, you must be a U.S. citizen and Georgia resident. You also must have created or updated a DDS online service account after June 1.

To initiate an online address change, go to www.dds.ga.gov and click on the "moving van" icon or access directly at this link https://online.dds.ga.gov/onlineservices/AddressChangeIntro.aspx.
