A driver was killed Monday in Cherokee County after his car veered off Ga. 20 and struck a guardrail.

Charles Brody, 58, of Cartersville, was headed westbound in a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic when it ran off the edge of the roadway and hit the guardrail near Knox Bridge Trail, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

“After striking the guardrail,” GSP Sgt. Eric Tallent said, “the vehicle crossed the two westbound lanes of traffic and the center line.”

The car struck a Lexus head-on as it was traveling eastbound on Ga. 20, and Brody died at the scene.

Mary Shamblin, 52, of Cumming, was driving the Lexus, Tallent said.

“No reason is known at this time for what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway,” Tallent said.

More than one person in the Lexus was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Tallent said.

Their conditions were unknown Tuesday.

“Impaired driving is not suspected in the crash,” Tallent said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
