Dorm-mate of Boston Marathon suspect talks to KFOX 14
A University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth student, Liam Fritz, 20, who shared the same dorm hall, Pine Dale Hall, with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev said students describe him as a friendly and nice guy.
"All of a sudden, this kid shows up on TV, and he looks pretty familiar. 'I know that kid. But chances are it wasn't him. He's a friendly kid," said Fritz of his initial reaction to the video and still images that the FBI began to release to media outlets.
Fritz, a political science major and sophomore at UMass, said he lived on a different floor than Dzhokhar but they have several mutual friends who speak Russian.
According to Fritz, their circle of friends never reported seeing the 19-year-old suspect reference Islamic websites or terrorist rings.
Fritz describes Dzhokhar, pronounced Ja-har.
"He was a little quiet but he was really, really friendly and just outgoing enough...he never manifested or harbored an anger toward anybody else," said Fritz.
According to Fritz, several students have been taken into custody for questioning.
