A DeKalb County convenience store clerk was shot and wounded Tuesday during a predawn robbery.

The shooting happened about 2:45 a.m. during a shift change at a Texaco gas station and convenience store on Flat Shoals Road.

There were two clerks inside a bulletproof cubicle, and as one exited the cubicle, “the suspect forced his way in, held the second clerk at gunpoint and demanded money,” DeKalb police Lt. A.W. Ford said.

“The clerk cooperated fully, yet the suspect still shot him in the head one time, gathered the money and left the location,” Ford told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The clerk, whose name has not been released, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition.

“The store has a very good video system,” Ford said.

“Watching the video, they guy was very casual,” he said. “I was surprised at how casual he just shot the man.”

The gunman got a way with less than $200, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The shooting happened one week after the fatal shooting of a clerk at a convenience store on Norwood Road in southeast Atlanta.
