A Decatur man was in an east-central Illinois jail Friday, facing felony drug charges and awaiting a March court appearance.
Kendall L. Grimball, 25, was arrested Wednesday in Champaign and was being held on $20,000 bond after officers said he was found with a backpack containing high-grade cannabis near a public school Wednesday.
According to The News-Gazette, citing a police report, Grimball was sitting on the second level of a Megabus that had stopped at a transit terminal in Champaign when he stood up abruptly and went to the first floor, drawing the attention of police officers on the outside. The terminal is located near a Champaign County school.
Officers boarded the bus with a police dog, which was alerted to a backpack on the second level. Officers found 12.7 ounces of a high-grade marijuana called “Kush” inside the backpack, the police report said.
The backpack was found where Grimball was allegedly seated on the second level. The police report said Grimball first denied he was riding on the upper deck but later admitted after his arrest that he bought the cannabis in Texas and planned to sell it in Champaign-Urbana metro area.
Grimball faces two felony counts of delivery of cannabis near school grounds. Champaign-Urbana is also home to the University of Illinois.
Grimball faces a March 19 court date.
