A man suspected of shooting and killing a 19-year-old in Atlanta’s Vine City neighborhood in mid-January was found and arrested Thursday in Clayton County, police said.

David Clay, 28, of Riverdale, was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, online jail records show.

The shooting took place Jan. 12 at an apartment on Griffin Street in southwest Atlanta, police said. Officers responded around 11:45 p.m. and found 19-year-old Jaylin Madrie dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Evidence suggested that Madrie may have been targeted, but no suspects were immediately identified, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported at the time.

In early February, a little more than two weeks after the deadly incident, Atlanta police said Clay was identified as the suspected shooter. Two weeks after being identified, he was found in Clayton and arrested, police said.

“The Atlanta Police Department is thankful for the efforts of the investigators with the Homicide Unit and the Fugitive Unit for quickly bringing this case to a close,” the agency said in a Facebook post announcing the arrest.
