A teenager suspected in an armed robbery described by authorities as an “ambush” that left two women dead in rural South Carolina was arrested Friday in Decatur.
Deron Brundage, 18, of Orangeburg, South Carolina, was tracked to Decatur about six weeks after the Sept. 12 shooting that led to murder charges against him, U.S. Marshals Service spokesman Inspector Frank Lempka said in a news release. Brundage has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and five counts of armed robbery in South Carolina.
Brundage is accused of shooting into a car occupied by four women, Lempka said. Around 3:40 a.m. that day, Brundage and at least one other suspect, also a teenager, “ambushed a vehicle and opened fire,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said on social media. In addition to the two women who were killed, a third woman was hit and injured. The fourth woman in the car was not hurt.
Orangeburg deputies arrested 18-year-old Jamore Ellison earlier this month, the sheriff’s office said. Ellison is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
In addition to the murder charges against him, Brundage has been charged with the armed robbery of several businesses in Fairfield County, South Carolina, Lempka said. Authorities believe Brundage came to Georgia to escape the charges. He was found and taken into custody without incident and remains in the DeKalb jail pending extradition.
