A Tennessee man had a revoked license when the car he was driving crashed head-on into a MARTA bus Thursday, Atlanta police said.

Evan Neely of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was cited for driving with a revoked license and failure to maintain a lane, according to an Atlanta police incident report.

The collision happened on Bolton Road near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway about 10:20 a.m., police said.

“The vehicle improperly crossed the line that led to the collision with the MARTA bus,” MARTA spokesman Erik Burton said Thursday.

When officers arrived, Neely was trapped in the Toyota Camry (which had a North Carolina tag) and had to be freed, according to police. He complained of pain to his chest and groin, according to the report, and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

A woman passenger in the car left the crash scene, Atlanta Fire Rescue spokesman Cortez Stafford said at the time.

However, police are not searching for her since they have no evidence that she committed a crime, spokeswoman Lisa Bender said Friday.

Neely “was very fidgety” while he was in his bed at Grady, an officer wrote in the report.

Police also recovered a wallet with documents belonging to someone else.

There were 8-10 passengers on the MARTA bus, Stafford said. Five were taken to Grady for treatment of minor injuries.
