Police have identified a 62-year-old man as the suspect in a deadly double shooting in southeast Atlanta.

Rufus Weems is wanted on murder charges in connection with the deaths of 18-year-old Chloe Dowdy and 25-year-old Christopher Welch, police said Wednesday.

About 7:10 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Bromack Drive, according to an Atlanta police incident report.

They found Dowdy dead and Welch wounded. Welch later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

“The initial investigation indicates the suspect and victims, who were acquaintances, were inside the location when an altercation occurred that resulted in gunfire,” Officer Lisa Bender said after the deadly incident. “The suspect fled the scene.”

Police said Weems is about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds.
