Atlanta police said a tip helped authorities seize marijuana with an estimated street value of $9 million.
Police were alerted Monday that a large shipment of pot was moving through the city in a cargo truck, according to Channel 2 Action News.
They passed the tip to state officers, who made a traffic stop, the television station reported. Narcotics officers took the driver and truck into custody. It is not known exactly where the stop was made.
Inside the truck, authorities found 208 bales weighing about 5,824 pounds.
“We think it's one of the biggest, if not the biggest, marijuana seizures we have ever had in the city,” Deputy Chief Darryl Tolleson said.
The pot was inside green shrink wrap and had been covered in chlorine to throw off drug-sniffing police dogs, Channel 2 reported.
The driver, 29-year-old Jose Ibarra, has been charged with trafficking in connection with the case, police said. He is in the Fulton County Jail.
