A man charged in connection with a crash that killed a Coweta County couple is out of jail after being granted bond.

Andrew John Wiemann, 28, of Peachtree City, was arrested in October after a July crash that killed Thomas Scott Mayo, 57, and Pamela Mayo, 58, officials said.

A judge set bond at $333,000 on several charges after a hearing Tuesday as well as imposing several conditions, according to officials involved in the case.

Wiemann is under house arrest and must wear an ankle monitor, according to Assistant District Attorney Herb Cranford. Wiemann also can’t drive, can’t have access to vehicles and can’t leave Georgia.

He’s charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving and failure to obey a traffic signal, Cranford said.

Toxicology tests on Wiemann are not complete, Cranford said.

The deadly crash happened on Ga. 54 at Fischer Crossing Boulevard in Sharpsburg, the Georgia State Patrol said. An Infiniti driven by Wiemann went through a red light and slammed into the Mayos’ Ford Escape, the GSP said.

The Mayos were headed to NCG Cinemas for a date night, Channel 2 Action News reported. They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the GSP.

Wiemann’s attorney, Scott Cummins, said the intersection where the incident happened has a history of trouble.

“This spot is a death trap,” Cummins said, citing Coweta County Sheriff’s Office statistics that show 25 accidents there in the past five years.

Cranford did not discuss specifics of the case.
