A Coweta County teenager has been charged after he allegedly sold drugs that contributed to overdoses of at least two other people, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The suspect’s father also died Sunday from an apparent overdose, authorities said.

Authorities responded to three overdoses Sunday, men ages 16 to 21, Channel 2 reported. Two of the victims said they bought the drugs from 17-year-old Jacob Baswell.

“At the hospital, we learned that our suspect was upstairs with his father, who had taken some of the pills and was being taken off life support,” said Col. James Yarbrough of the Coweta sheriff’s department.

Baswell said he bought 50 pills online, but only 20 have been accounted for.

“If you come across them, notify us,” Yarbrough said. “We will pick them up or destroy them. Do not take them.”

The pills are a strong underground version of benzodiazepine, said Capt. Robby Flanagan of the Coweta fire department.

Prescription versions include Xanax and Valium, he said — “sedative medication that depresses the central nervous system.”

Baswell is charged with narcotics possession with intent to distribute, Channel 2 reported.

He may face additional charges over his father’s death. Shawn Baswell’s cause of death is not official, pending autopsy and toxicology test results, Coroner Richard Hawk told the Newnan Times Herald.
