A 17-year-old is in police custody after being named a suspect in a shooting that injured two people, including an 11-year-old, officials said.

Brandon Nicanor-Cruz turned himself in at Atlanta police headquarters Tuesday, spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement.

Nicanor-Cruz’s arrest comes more than two months after the shooting sent the child and his 18-year-old cousin to a hospital.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the area of Peachtree Avenue in Buckhead, according to a police report. Both victims were shot twice, police said. The 11-year-old boy had a wound to his leg, and the 18-year-old had gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm, the report said.

The child reported seeing a group of men wearing masks walk past the house while he and his cousin were outside. He said the group walked toward them and “started shooting, apparently for no reason,” the report said.

Multiple witnesses saw the men run from the scene in several different directions, the report said.

The boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, and the teen was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, AJC.com previously reported. Both were alert and stable.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the victims were with a group that was feuding with another group at school. Investigators told the news station two or three men fired at the victims.

It’s not clear how police identified Nicanor-Cruz as a suspect or how many suspects they are looking for at this time.

Nicanor-Cruz is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to Atlanta police. He was taken to the Metro Youth Detention Center.
