If you haven’t made it up to the North Georgia mountains this year to get your leaf peeping in, Sunday might be the day to it.

The second half of the weekend is expected to be a picturesque fall day, with sunny skies and temperatures that reach the mid-60s.

Right now, it is 59 degrees in Atlanta. Temperatures are expected to climb a little more to 62 degrees by 2 p.m. and 64 by 3 p.m.

That means Sunday could be nearly 10 degrees warmer than Saturday, which only reached 56 degrees in Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

“During the afternoon, it’s actually going to feel pretty pleasant,” Deon said.

Enjoy it while it lasts, though. By Tuesday morning, rain is moving into North Georgia as a cold front makes its way south.

“It’s going to turn breezy and much colder as we get an Arctic push of air into our area” Deon said.

As for traffic, the lack of rain this weekend means Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be out in full force to complete construction projects — especially on Ga. 400 and I-20.

Drivers shouldn’t run into any football-related delays downtown as the 1-7 Atlanta Falcons are in New Orleans this week taking on the division-leading Saints. New Orleans has only lost one game this season. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
