Cherokee County authorities need help identifying a body that was discovered Saturday afternoon.

A biologist searching for snakes found the skeletal remains of a human body off South Cherokee Lane in Woodstock, and detectives arrived on the scene around 6 p.m., Lt. Jay Baker with the sheriff’s office said Sunday.

The body appears to be that of a man who was wearing size 13, red Adidas tennis shoes, Baker said. Blue jeans and burgundy shorts also were found with the remains. Investigators do not yet know how long the body was in the woods.

The remains will be sent to the GBI crime lab for analysis, Baker said.

Cherokee sheriff’s officials said they do not having any cases of missing people that fit this investigation.

Anyone with information on the case should call 911.

Meriwether shooting suspect arrested in Cobb

Federal agents arrested a suspect in a kidnapping and triple shooting — one of them fatal — early Sunday, just 24 hours after the three people were found gunned down at a Meriwether County house in central Georgia.

According to the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Timothy Chambley was captured in Powder Springs, where he had relatives.

Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said deputies and Woodbury police officers were called to the house on Williamson Circle just after midnight on Saturday morning where they found an elderly woman dead and a man and another woman critically wounded. They learned a 6-year-old had been taken along with the dead woman’s 1998 Pontiac Grand Am.

Smith said in a statement the child was soon released unharmed at Chambley’s house in Harris County.

Neither the names of the victims nor the motive for the shootings were released.
